OLDHAM-FLEX couplings use a radially moving disc to compensate for large misalignment errors between two shafts. The drums are made of hardened aluminium alloy, while the discs are made from acetal with excellent mechanical properties and low friction coefficient.

The couplings may show free-play above 10⁷ revolutions due to wear, which can be corrected by replacing the disc. They are fitted with securing drums with drilled holes, allowing installation and replacement without disassembling the machines.

Although radial misalignment doesn't cause significant kinematic errors, angular misalignment can lead to small errors. Suitable for positioning shaft slow drives, spindles, and valves, they should not be used with cantilever or paired shafts.
